Spiritual/Liturgical Pottery
|
Religious symbols express who we are and Whose we are. They point to those relationships and values that we cherish and strive for. Some of my pottery offers writing or images that directly point to God. Other pieces are more open-ended with symbols that encompass religious and spiritual diversity, such as "I let go" pieces, the "Circle of Friends" candleholder, and the "Angel Trinity" candleholder.
Spiritual/liturgical pottery can be used in rituals to mark transitions (both celebratory and painful); to remember the past, to be grounded in the present, and to lean into the future. So, in addition to being symbols, my spiritual pottery can be used in public worship, private devotionals, in small groups, and by ministers and therapists and their counselees. The prayer bowls are an example of pottery that can be used by ministers and therapists and their counselees as both symbol and ritual. Hurting persons can write feelings, problems, prayers for things that feel too large to carry alone and leave them in the prayer bowls in the minister's office. Because raku-fired pieces are birthed from a nest of burning paper, they can be made with paper that you send me with symbols and writing in which you acknowledge what you need to let go of, wish to pray for, or celebrate. |
